disneymusk The Three Musketeers Are Coming To Würzburg!

It has been discovered that Würzburg is going to be one of the locations for the upcoming German / American remake of “The Three Musketeers” movie. Made by Constantin Film (based in Munich), the film will apparently be directed by Bernd Eichinger, who produced movies such as Name Of The Rose and Perfume.

Würzburg will double as 17th century Paris, which I am not sure is a compliment or not! Apparently they were drawn here by the Bishop’s Residence, the Altebrücke (Old Bridge) and the Fortress Marienberg.

And the stars of the movie? Wait for it…..

Christoph Waltz from Inglourious Bastards, Milla Jovovich from Fifth Element, and…..Orlando Bloom from many movies such as Lord Of The Rings and Pirates Of The Caribbean.  The rest of the cast is nothing to brag about but these three stars alone is enough to make everyone around here excited.   To my knowledge, the last time a movie star came to Würzburg was in 2005 when Kenny Baker, who played R2-D2 in Star Wars, turned up at the cinema where my wife works, to promote Revenge Of The Sith.   Well it was actually outside Würzburg but close enough….

You could say my darling wife is rather breathless right now at the thought that Orlando will be in the same proximity as her at the end of August.  I’m sure she is hard at work right now securing passes to the film set!   And I might even consider going along and applying if they put out a call for extras.

Having read the book, I have despaired at the movie versions that have been put out (although the Disney version is quite cute!).   The Kiefer Sutherland version was just downright awful and should have been shot at birth (having Charlie Sheen as a French musketeer is just downright laughable – he and the rest of the cast didn’t even bother to attempt to fake French accents!).  But with Christoph Waltz as Cardinal Richelieu, I am at last hopeful that we are finally going to see a decent version of the book made into a movie, one that won’t make me barf into my popcorn.   Just like Batman, you have to go through several awful movie versions before you finally hit gold.  And having Milla Jovovich as Milady just makes it even better!
